If you really feel that you have a problem, you should talk with your parents and perhaps see a doctor.
Your Doctor will be able to measure you and determine if you are truly overweight.
Please remember that you are only 12 years old. Your body still has a lot of growing to do!
Remember the story about the ugly duckling? (Or the caterpillar story by Eric Carle?)
I know that it may not seem that way, but those stories are true!
I remember when I was twelve. I remember specifically this girl who sat behind me in class for years during school. She was the plainest girl you ever saw--perhaps even a little overweight. She never spent time on wearing makeup or on acting like someone she wasn't.
But do you know what happened to her? She was voted Prettiest Girl when I was a Senior in High School!!! (I'm not lying!!!)
I know that you may be impatient, but you will probably just need to wait to see what happens.
You may be the next supermodel! But you won't know for several more years.
Hang in there! (And eat your vegetables! ;-) ) |

But to answer your question directly, Yes. If you are female, this weight is considered Normal. (This is a BMI of 22.6.)
Our informal research has indicated that most women prefer to have a BMI of 20 to 22. If you go by this measure, you might want to lose about 4 pounds. (Notice the emphasis on might!)
Frankly, this is really more of a personal choice. Rather than join our site, you may want to just increase your daily activity to shave a few pounds over time. (Even walking can help!)
In addition, you may want to look at what you are eating and cut down on a few fatty foods. (Eat a variety including fruits and vegetables.)
If you want to lose the weight more quickly, you could lose 4 pounds in about 2-4 weeks--depending on how aggressive you want to be. |

I am a 39 year female. I am about 30 pounds overweight ugh! I bought an eliptical machine because it burns calories quite quickly and is a great workout. To my amazement after about a month of us 3-4 times/week for only 10-15 minutes I gained a whole inch on each thigh. Needless to say I stopped using it. My question is this - if I keep using it will the fat disappear eventually and make my legs smaller or will I keep building bulky muscles?
Thanks for your time |

We have a lot of people that write us with this type of question. They are always mystified why the hours of intense exercising they do each week doesn't change their weight. The answer is simple.
Exercising isn't enough! You also need to look at what you eat!
Let's get back to the basics. To lose weight, you need to burn more than you eat.
Because it sounds like you have the exercise part covered, you need to focus on how much you eat each day.
Generally, your food choices are more important than your exercising. For example, a soft drink "costs" about 110 calories. If you went over your daily burn rate by this amount, it would take 15 minutes of high impact aerobics (which tends not to be fun) to burn that many calories.
At that point, you need to make a choice? Is that extra soft drink worth it? Do you have the extra 15 minutes? Or would you rather spend that 15 minutes of exercise burning an extra 110 calories! (In a month of burning 110 calories per day, you could lose a pound.) |

About how many calories do I burn a day on average? I'm a 27 yr old female, weigh 118, light activities all day. Housework, cook dinner, work in a dental office 7 hrs a day. |

Just jump to our free tools page and use the Daily Burn Rate Tool. Here's the link:
Daily Burn Rate
Depending on what you do in the dental office, your daily burn rate can change. For example, if you just sit all day at the office, then the rate this tool calculates will be able right. However, if you are on your feet all day, you can generally add 10% to the burn rate to get an answer that is closer. |

How many carbs do you burn in a day by just existing? |

You don't burn carbs as an energy source you burn calories. Those calories may made of carbs, fat or protein but the body doesn't distinguish between them when it needs energy. Stop thinking carbs. Join the site and learn how to lose weight the only way it can happen. |
