 Q:    Hello, I have been working out consistently for about one year now. I have been burning 800 calories a day by bikeing aerobically, and eating healthy and within reason, by eating about 1000-1200 calories per day. Except I have only lost about 20 pounds over the course of the entire year! For me this seems extremely strange, because I have been working so hard to loose weight and it's basically not happening like it should be. Is there any sort of supplement that can help me loose fat? I've heard of Xederine and hydroxicut, what would you recommend? because I'm really out of ideas for this one. Another quick bit of information is that I am 17 years old, and 5'6, thank you so much for your time.

 A:    Chrissy- You doon't say how much you weigh now so we cannot tell if you are under, over or at your ideal weight right now. First of all, we absolutely do NOT reccomend using supplements of any kind. Here's where we have a big problem with taking these weight loss aides. You have to ask yourself this simple question. Are you going to take any weight loss supplement for the rest of you life? The answer to that question is, no. When you stop taking the supplement, your body will slow back down. Unless you changed your eating habits you will gain the weight back. This is exactly what happens to 95% of the people who choose weight loss aides or fad diets. Those 95% gain back more weight than they lost within two years. Weight loss is a very simple formula. Burn more calories than you eat. There is nothing you can "take" to help you with this process in the long run.

It all comes down to portion control within the foods you eat. Eat a healthy, balanced diet while making sure you are always in a calorie deficit and you will lose weight. That's how the body works and that's why we invented fatburn.com. To lose weight, you need to learn to eat the healthy foods you like in a formula that will allow you lose weight. We think you may be overestimating your calorie burn and perhaps underestimationg how many calories you are consuming.  Q:    What effect does caffeine have on weight loss? I'm used to getting up to at least two cups of coffee in the morning but have been told it isn't good when trying to loose weight.

 A:    Generally speaking, caffeine speeds up your metabolism causing you to burn more calories and therefore, speeds weight loss (temporarily). While we certainly do not recommend adding caffeine to your diet in order to help you lose weight, drink a couple of cups in the morning is fine if it is part of your regular routine.  
 
 Q:    Hey, I just joined your site today, so I can't say whether I like it or not, but so far I like all of the info. and it seems pretty helpful. I am 33 years old, 5'3" and weigh 132 lbs. I have read other sites regarding "fat burning foods" - I assume they are talking about things like grapefruit. Can you elaborate on this subject? I know there is no fad that will make you lose weight in a healthy or permanent way - life style change is the only way. But, I am just interested in learning what different foods may do to further assist in the weight loss process. Thanks. Tawny

 A:    There are no specific foods that aid in weight loss. What is important is the amount. you eat. You CAN eat whatever you want and lose weight IF you control the portion size and burn MORE calories that you consume. If you burn 500 calories a day MORE than you consume you will lose one pound a week. We wish there was a trick or a gimmick but it just isn't so. Choose healthy foods you ENJOY and control your portion size and you'll lose the weight. Good luck and please let us know how you are progressing!
