Q & A with fatburn.com's Experts

Q:    I just did a 103 mile ride on my bicycle and averaged 15.8 mph while on the pedals. Fatburn gave me 11,000+ calories burned. Is that true? or is there somthing else that goes on during long exsercise sesions and I'm giving myself too much credit?
Asked By CAA
A:    103 miles @ 15 mph would take about seven hours to complete. The total amount of calories burned for the ride according to fatburn.com (for a 6'3" 200 pound man) is 6682 calories burned. We don't know how you entered the ride into the system to get 11,000 but try again while making sure time and speed are accurate. Thanks for the question.

Q:    I am working out for an hour a day on the eliptical machine and burning 656 calories in that time. I keep my calorie intake under 1000 a day - I have been monitoring my fat percentage I started out at 30% at the beginning of the week and at the end I am at 26% can I continue to expect these great fat loss results or is this just really strange. It seems like a huge loss. What is the normal rate of body fat % loss in a week of working out?
Asked By gettheskinny
A:    Body fat percentage by the week would be a hard way to accurately gauge your progress on a weekly basis. There will always be a 2-3 percent fluctuation in every body fat measurement. You best friend in weight loss is the good old scale. But use it wisely. Only get on the scale once a week at the exact same time as the week before. The best time is when you wake up in the morning after you've gone to the bathroom. One other concern, don't eat fewer than 1000 calories. You will send you body into starvation mode. This will slow your metabolism down making it harder to lose weight. Just make sure that you eat at least 500 fewer calories than you burn each day of the week and you will have a net burn over 3,500 calories which is one pound of body fat. Use fatburn.com to make all this sooooo much easier. Good luck!

Q:    hi, i am 5'6 and weigh 147. i am trying to lose in between 10-20 more pounds, but my body says no. i constantly workout by dancing with my daughter everyday, clean my house daily, stretch all day long,do my trampoline,ab roller, and workout my arms with 3lb dumbells. i don't understand the calorie counting thing, but do eat very healthy and drink plenty of water everyday. should i try to add some extra protein in my diet?
Asked By deb
A:    When talking about weight loss, a calorie is a calorie. It matters not if it's a protein, carbohydrate or fat. When the body needs energy it burns calories. Adding protein to your diet will not aid in your goal to lose 10-20 pounds. The only way the body loses weight is when it is consistently in a calorie deficit. To put it very simply, you have to eat fewer calories than you burn so your body uses your extra fat pounds as an energy source. That's the way the body works and there is no getting around it. All the other high protein/low carb noise you hear today is just smoke and mirrors hiding the facts. YOU HAVE TO BURN MORE CALORIES THAN YOU EAT TO LOSE WEIGHT! Our suggestion to you is to begin learning how your body works and that's why we put fatburn.com together. By tracking how many calories you eat and burn- and giving you the difference between the two daily- you will know if you are losing weight before you step on the scale! You won't have to wonder why the weight is not coming off. Those are the facts. When you fully understand the facts it really is simple. Check out our See Results tab. You will see the huge changes fatburn.com users have made because they know every day they are using body fat as an energy source. Good luck.

Q:    Hi, my question is, i was wondering about the calories burned while using a stationary bike. I am heavier and that is why I am trying to lose weight, but the calories said is 800 burned, and i was wondering since im heavier, does that mean i could have burned more then 800 cals or less then 800 cals? this is using a machine that does not ask for your weight as well. thank you.. and happy holidays.
Asked By Dani
A:    Dani, the stationary bike is set up to give you an average and you don't sound like the average person. Unfortunately, without knowing your weight there’s no way anyone can answer your question about how many calories you burn on the bike. Join fatburn.com and let the system do all this work for you. By entering your foods in the system you will know how many calories you are eating every day. By entering your weight, daily activity level and exercise you will know how many calories you burn every day. Finally the system tells you your net calories burned for the day and you will know for certain if you are achieving your daily goal or not. It's simple. The site walks you through everything. If you are skeptical, just sign up for our month to month program. Cancel if you don't like it.

Q:    You got me to sign up for the fat burn web sight and I have several questions. First about eating. I have two tipical senarios on office days (about 50% of the time) I have been skiping breakfast and grabing a coffee and doughnut on the way to the office I skip linch and get in a 1 hour bike ride. I'm very hungery by dinner maybe too hungry and eat alot. On the rest of the days I'm with customers so I may or may not get a one hour bike ride in the morning and eat the same coffee and doughnut for breakfast a resterant lunch and dinner at home. Anny suggestins for eating habits to improve my results on fatburn.com and reduce hunger? Second question on exsercise: I ride a road bike in a fairly hilly area as my exclusive source of exsercise. I'm getting about 80 miles a week in on a road bike. 3 to 4 hours on Sunday and one hour 2 to 4 time a week. With the longer days in the summer I can get 100 to 120 miles a week. At 80 miles I gain weight at 120+ I can loose with effort. Should I invest in a stationary trainer for the bike to get more regular during the winter or a weight training machine to get more mussel tone for the upper body that the bike doesnt do much for? Or do you recomend somthing different? But not running, I hate running, death is better, I'm not doing it.
Asked By Craig
A:    Craig, your eating habits have to change. Skipping meals can be as tragic to your metabolism and weight loss as eating too much. A large part of your daily metabolic rate is your digestive system. You should eat at least three meals a day. Most dieticians will tell you five small meals a day is the way to go. The reason being, it takes a lot of energy to breakdown and absorb what you eat. When you skip meals your digestive system grinds to a halt and that large part of your metabolism stops burning. Next, there are much better and healthier choices out there than your morning donut. High fiber foods such as fruits, oatmeal or high protein foods such as egg whites will give you better lasting energy to start your day out right. But, if your donut in the morning is your vice, no problem. You can still stay healthy as long as you don't over-do the donut eating. As far as getting a stationary bike, if you have the room and the money, go for it! The best health insurance policy you can buy is a regular diet of aerobic work. The bike, when used regularly, will keep your cardiovascular system in shape and with the right food intake will go a long way towards aiding in your weight loss goals. Remember, follow the simple rules of fatburn.com, ie, consistently burn at least 500 calories more than you eat, every day and you will lose one pound a week. Consistency is the key.
