Hi, I have a question for you. I have a medium build and im 17 years old, and I'm trying to lose weight and get down to a healthy weight and feel good about myself. I was just wondering what you consider a healthy weight for a 17 year old girl. By the way, I am 5'5, and i work out 5-6 times a week. thank you so much for your time. take care. |

A healthy weight for a woman your size would be between 120 and 150 pounds. That would be a Body Mass Index of 20-25. Anything over a BMI of 25 (or over 150 lbs) would be considered overweight and you would have a shorter life expectancy. Most woman believe that they look best with a BMI between 20-22. That would be 120-132 pounds for you. Good luck! |

Hi. I have been following the scheme of burning 800 cals a day for 5-6 days a week for quite a while. But something odd is happening, I haven't been losing the one pound a week. Is it possible that since I bike about 37 miles each time, I'm putting on muscle, but I'm losing the weight, although the scale doesnt say so? I know that muscle weighs more then fat...but is it possible that I have lost the one pound a week but my muscle is showing I havent lost as much because im gaining muscle at the same time? You ask if it is possible. The answer is, yes. Anything is possible because no two people are alike. But if you are riding a bike for 37 miles at a time it is most likely you are riding aerobically. During aerobic exercise muscle growth is very slow, if at all. So the likelihood that the muscle growth is off setting the weight loss is not very good. Here are a few things to think about. Be consistent. Your body will get into a rhythm of losing weight regularly when you are asking it to used stored fat as an energy source every day. Stay with your routine. It took time to gain the weight; it will take a while to lose it. Make sure that you are eating enough. You can exercise too much and your body, if it's not getting fed enough, will slow down to save itself. Never drop below 1200 calories for your day. You have to keep your metabolism functioning normally. Good luck |

Whats the better machine the stationary bike or the elliptical trainer? I'm 48 and I'm trying to lose weight. I weigh 183 and having a hard time losing...going thru alot of changes with my body including pre diabetic and I can seem to lose the middle..(stomach) HELP! |

Both the exercise machines you ask about are designed to do the same thing, allow you to exercise aerobically while being comfortable. Which one is better? The one that you like the most. The key is that you use them on a regular basis. For some like yourself, with weight and health issues, you should ride as often as once a day for at least 30 minutes. But remember, all the exercise in the world won't do much if you don't change you eating habits. The answer to your health starts there. Good luck! |

I use to weigh 286lbs. I have lost 25lbs so far in about 16 weeks. I want to get down to 195 to 200 lbs. How many calories will I have to burn a day? I work out 3 times a week, riding a bike or using a stairmachine. I do this for 1 hour at a very high rate. |

The answer to your question isn't in how many calories you have to burn a day; it's in how many calories you have to burn a day verses how many you eat. The burning of calories is just half the equation. To lose one pound a week you have to consistently burn 500 more calories than you eat each day of the week. If you want to lose two pounds a week you have to consistently burn 1000 more calories than you eat each day. Get it? That's why we developed fatburn.com. Are the Subway calorie/nutrition figures given in the meals section based on a standard sub preparation (i.e. do they include all the toppings Subway has, or not mayo but oil etc. That could have a big impact. |

The figures we have are the exact figures Subway publishes in their nutritional information. Therefore, if you are changing what would typically come with the sandwich, wrap or salad you may want to create your own piece by piece and save it as a meal?
